Scooters both modern and classic are still popular today
After the end of the second world war there was a need for cheap affordable transportation and this was significantly taken onboard by two Italian companies.
Piaggio who had been an Italian aircraft manufacturer during the war and Lambretta who amongst other iron ware produced scaffolding were quick to take their existing skill sets and apply them to scooter production.
Piaggio’s original scooter engine was based on a world war two bomber starter motor.
Lambretta’s scaffold tubing became the frame of the Lambretta scooter.
Both companies produced a wide variety of models some of which can be seen below.
Piaggio still produces scooters to this day.
Lambretta produced scooters up until 1971 when it ceased trading, Lambrettas were also produced under licenece in Spain and in India.
